Village Green and Fairy House opening at Lauriston Park

Arvida Lauriston Park retirement community in Cambridge celebrated the grand opening of two new features - a Village Green and the resident-led Fairy House.

The new Village Green, officially opened by Waipā District Mayor Mike Pettit, is a versatile space designed for croquet, bowling, and putting, quickly becoming a hub for outdoor activities and social gatherings. The thoughtfully designed area encourages residents to get outdoors, stay active, and spend time together in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

“We're so proud to have these new additions in our community. They will create more opportunities for connection and enjoyment for residents,” says Village Manager Tanya Lindsay.

The Fairy House project was inspired by the removal of an elm tree for safety reasons. Rather than seeing the remaining stump as a loss, residents spotted an opportunity and transformed it into a magical Fairy House complete with its own garden area, adding a touch of whimsy to the village grounds.

This resident‑led initiative took a year to complete, with residents dedicating time in the workshop to build the structure and carefully decorate its interior with charming, intricate details. The finished Fairy House is a reflection of the creativity, collaboration, and pride residents take in shaping their retirement community.
